CAR OF THE WEEK

1964 Amphicar 770 owned by JB Edelstein

There are many different types of vehicles on MotorCrush. We have racecars, motorcycles, trikes, tanks, boats, F1 cars, supercars, hypercars, track cars, modified cars, daily drivers, and even cars with Gatling guns and missile launchers. Now, we are proud to welcome another type of vehicle to MotorCrush, the Amphicar!

The Amphicar 770 was built in Berlin, Germany from 1961 to 1968. The “770” refers to its top speeds of 7 knots on water and 70 MPH on land. It was made to appeal to America’s growing leisure market. The Amphicar hit the U.S with a splash in the 60s. They were featured in movies, TV commercials, and were owned by many celebrities. Even President Linden B. Johnson owned one. A total of 3,878 units were created, and the majority of them were imported to the United States. Unfortunately, the company was forced to close its doors in 1968, shortly after new EPA and USDOT emissions and safety equipment standards when into effect and halted sales in the U.S. It remains the only amphibious passenger vehicle to be mass-produced.

Today, Amphicars are not a very common sight, so we were delighted to see the one pictured above checked in on the MotorCrush Live Feed. The car is owned by MotorCrush user, JB Edelstein who purchased the car back in 1998 from San Diego, California. Since then, the car has seen many freshwater lakes and plenty of open roads. Its current home is on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, where you can find it cruising around with JB and his wife behind the wheel. Make sure you drop JB a like to congratulate him on taking home car of the week. We also suggest checking out the rest of his garage—he has some really cool rides!

MOD OF THE WEEK

Complete MSA exhaust system on a 1986 Nissan 300ZX owned by Richard Zych.

Richard’s father purchased this 300ZX new in 1986 as a retirement present, and it served as a daily driver for 26 years. When his father passed, Richard was given the keys. Since then, the car has been garage kept, well maintained, and lightly modified. One modification includes a full MSA exhaust system from its headers to muffler with an Aero resonator. This car probably sounds just as crisp as it looks. If you want to learn about the rest of Richard’s modifications to his 300ZX, head over to his MotorCrush profile and check out his car’s customization page.

Vehicle Bio OF THE WEEK

“2.5” Magniflow exhaust, performance chip, short shift kit, turbo rear valance, front and rear bumper pad delete, Dino wheel 993 17″ wheels, & a K&N cold air intake.”

– Dale Johnston on his 1998 Porche 944 S.

Awesome ride, Dale! This 1988 Porsche 944 S came from the factory with a turbocharged 2.5L inline-four engine matted to a 5-speed transmission. It puts out 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which propels this 2,998 pound Porscha to 60 miles per hour in 5.7 seconds with a top speed of 168 mph. Dale’s 944, however, will likely be a bit faster thanks to his solid list of performance upgrades. You can check out more of Dale’s clean 944 on his MotorCrush profile, and don’t forget to drop him a like!
